The Latest on Wrexham's No-Vote (May 2005)

The latest news from Wrexham is that they may well be looking towards a second stock transfer ballot under the Community Housing Mutual model. Tenants would then collectively own those homes that transfer and would have more say in how the social housing organisation is run.

Wrexham had previously looked at Prudential borrowing, although reportedly this would have meant council house rents rising to approximately £103 per week by 2015.

By comparison, Denbighshire are reportedly now considering shelving plans to vote on stock transfer due to preferring the ‘prudential borrowing’ route. This would be after spending several years working towards a ballot of the tenants. Flintshire are reportedly looking at transferring only the worst of their housing stock and retaining the rest. They would be the first council in Wales to indicate that they wish to proceed for a partial stock transfer.

With the Welsh Assembly Business Plans due by June this year, it will soon become apparent which council’s will be looking towards stock transfer and which council’s will not. Make sure you regularly check the Housing in Wales website for more updates………..
