Research 'Techniques'
Google
or AltaVista - don't
laugh, you would be suprised how much information you can
get by just typing your key research words into one of these
popular search engines.
Library - again
a fairly foreign and distant research technique to many, but
can be very useful.
Internet
Research Links
Housemark
- If you are researching a project and you are having trouble
locating a publication or information, you can search the
Housemark website or post a question on the forum. Another
Housing professional is bound to have some information they
are willing to share. (NB: You will need a password to access
some sections of the site)
Housing
Today & Inside
Housing - rich source of Housing related articles. You
can search the website for any articles with keywords. Very
helpful if your looking for some up-to-date information on
a research project. (NB: Housing Today is no longer publishing
it's magazines but you can search the website for past articles)
HMSO
website - its a good idea to start from the begining when
looking at a research project. What does the actual law or
act say? This website contains all Acts from 1988 onwards.
Oultwood.com
- website containing links to all local authorities in England
and Wales. Great for getting contact details for specific
councils/departments.
BME issues –
links and guidance on BME issues in Wales from the excellent
new website NWREP
or North Wales RSL Equality Partnership.
The
Centre for Housing Policy - A rich source of Housing research
documents from the University of York
Statistics
Census
- for any good research project, your first port of call should
be the Census statistics. It gives invaluable statistics on
a wide range of data both locally and nationally which can
underpin any research project.
for the Census information on-line
Welsh
Assembly Government Statistics Page - link to the main
Housing statistics page on the Welsh Assembly Website.
