Conwy County Borough Council became the first Welsh local
authority in Wales to use Anti Social Behaviour Injunctions
(ASBI’s).
They attended court asking for
a total of 7 ASBI’s to be granted against seven people
who had been causing drunken behaviour, fighting, vandalism
and intimidation at Minafon flats in Old Colwyn.
The fast-track judge District
Judge Hoffman granted the ASBI’s against the 7 and within
hours the individuals had been served the injunctions.
The Injunctions mean that they
are not allowed within Minafon flats or its grounds. If any
of them breach the order they will be in contempt of court
and could face imprisonment. Flat residents were told to call
police if they see any of those served with the order in the
area.
Flat residents were understandably
relieved that the council had taken such quick action.
ASBI’s have been used extensively
in areas such as Manchester, and have been strongly pushed
by the government through the ‘Together’ campaign.
